my.telegraph clocks up over 5,000 bloggers

Communities site my.telegraph.co.uk has over 5,000 bloggers and over 70,000 comments.

I found out the impressive stats when I attended Word-up, a meet-up group for WordPress developers in Brighton, earlier this evening.

Bloggers get their own URL complete with the word Telegraph (such as my.telegraph.co.uk/sarahmarshall), and a Telegraph logo above their post.

Paul Gibbs, developer at the Telegraph, explained how the site uses WordPress and the BuddyPress social network, which are both open source.

The site is managed by a group of six community moderators who spend 12 hours a day reading comments, checking flagged up comments for legal issues and encouraging engagement.
