A post I wrote earlier today. I’d like to add this use of Google Street View demonstrating before and after images of the riots

Facts and figures on the future of mobile: lessons from #mobilemedia11

I’m generally hopeless with numbers and fail to remember a single family member’s number, excluding the 2916 number we had when I was six. However, when it comes to quotable stats, I can reel them off my tongue without thinking.

I spent yesterday at the Media Briefing’s Mobile Media Strategies and now have any number of facts and figures to pass on to anyone who’ll listen.

  • Facebook is already 40% mobile, with 250 million active mobile users, said @domjacquesson
  • Android will dominate this market, he added.
  • BlackBerry will (probably) switch to Android within 18 months, was another forecast following a report he carried out on the future of mobile.
  • Sky has had 1.2 million remote record requests from mobile, said David Gibbs from BSkyB.

There are 10 more stats here, all given in the first half hour of the day.

Figures on Economist iPad and iPhone app downloads were revealed, Telegraph stats were not. However, we did learn that more over 55s have iPads than under 35s, which is a “sweet spot” for the Telegraph as they are the newspaper’s readers.

There was much talk on the Financial Times’ new web-app HTML5 hybrid, which we were told is a “wake-up call” for publishers.

And they will open their eyes they will see welcome possibilities, with tablets providing the “biggest opportunity to publishers for a long time”.
